Introduction to Statistics

Course content
This workshop conveys basic knowledge of statistics regardless of any field of research or software.
You will be introduced to statistics, learn the basic terms and methods to obtain and analyze relevant data for your research.
Day 1:
• Causality and Statistics
• Observational vs Experimental Studies
• Types of Studies: Surveys, Studies, Cohort Studies, Case-Control Studies
• Basic Concepts in Statistics: P-value; Significance
• Size matters; Confidence Interval

Day 2:
• How to encode collected data (Excel, SPSS, Stata, R,…)
• Analyzing your data descriptively and inferentially
• Dealing with multidimensional problems
• Dealing with panel data
• Using graphs when models are really complex (Strutural Equation Modeling SEM)
Target group
Doctoral candidates from all subject areas.
