DAAD to Continue Funding Joint Master’s Degree Program with St Andrews for Four More Years
The program in German and Comparative Literature at the Universities of Bonn and St Andrews gives students in the Rhineland and Scotland an international double degree and has been one of the mainstays of the two institutions’ strategic partnership since 2013. The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) has now agreed to fund the program for a further four years, thus enabling the continuation of a study offering that has combined a literary education with intensive international experience since 2013.
DAAD Funding: University of Bonn Ranks Among the Nation's Top Institutions
The University of Bonn is among the leading higher-education institutions in Germany when it comes to funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD). The latest funding statistics for 2025 put it sixth in Germany among the DAAD’s member institutions, attracting total funding of some €9.18 million. Thus the University of Excellence has moved up two places in the rankings year on year. The analysis shows that Bonn is the university in North Rhine-Westphalia that receives the most funding from the DAAD.
University of St Andrews: Rector Michael Hoch Awarded Honorary Doctorate
Professor Michael Hoch, Rector of the University of Bonn, is to receive a further honorary doctorate, with the University of St Andrews conferring the honorary title of Doctor of Science (DSc) on him at its summer graduation ceremony later today, Friday, July 3, 2026. In making the award, the Scottish university—a strategic partner of the University of Bonn—is recognizing Hoch’s scientific achievements as a molecular biologist as well as his outstanding dedication to research excellence and international cooperation.
I want everything right now – or maybe later?
Splashing out – or saving for a big holiday? Relaxing on the couch – or working out? Polishing off a whole bar of chocolate – or leaving some for later? Decisions such as these are not easy to make because the urge for immediate gratification has to take a back seat to a longer-term desire. People’s behavior is highly individual here, and there also appear to be differences between cultures. To better understand these types of decisions, psychologists from the University of Bonn are working with researchers in 77 countries to conduct an unusually large online study: Around 15,000 people are set to be surveyed. Interested adults can take part until August 18, 2026: https://www.soscisurvey.de/tricc-project/
