International Days 2025

International Days

October 20 and 21, 2025

Once again, this year’s International Days at the University of Bonn will be devoted to excellent students and researchers, international partnerships and intercultural dialogue. Alongside the traditional presentation of the state awards and the DAAD Prize, the Vice Rectorate for International Affairs will host informational and networking events.

The International Days 2025 will focus on our Bonn University Ambassadors. As part of the Ambassadors Workshop on October 21, 2025, students and researchers at the University of Bonn will have the opportunity to network with our Ambassadors and discuss planned stays abroad or cooperation opportunities.

Want to see your art on these walls?

If you are member of the University community interested in presenting an artistic project with an international focus on the walls of Leah’s World Café, please send an email with a one-page concept paper to prorektorat.internationales@uni-bonn.de.

Meet the Bonn University Ambassadors!

As former visiting researchers at our University, our 20 Bonn University Ambassadors are united not only by their personal ties to Bonn, but also by their desire to represent our alma mater abroad. Ambassadors from universities in Jordan, Ghana, India, Brazil, Japan, Israel, Ethiopia, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom will once again travel to Bonn this year for a joint workshop on the occasion of the International Days. This annual gathering is intended to further strengthen the participants' already strong ties to Bonn through shared activities and intensive exchange, and to facilitate the further development of the program.

Our Bonn University Ambassadors have a scientific and personal connection to Bonn and are therefore the ideal contacts to answer your questions about doctoral studies, research and teaching based on their own experience.

This year, you can meet our Ambassadors in person at this networking event. At individual booths, they will introduce their home countries and institutions, present concrete collaboration opportunities and answer your questions about academic exchange and research collaborations.

Learn more about guest stays and cooperation opportunities abroad, and establish direct contacts for your next stay abroad or international partnership! And for administrative questions, our advisors from the International Office will be there to help you right on the spot.

Conversations will also be sweetened by small treats from the countries our Ambassadors represent.

This year you will meet:

This year outstanding students and researchers will again be honored with the state awards and the DAAD Prize on October 21 as part of the International Days. The state awards are sponsored by the French, Spanish and British governments.

This year’s program will be enriched by a keynote lecture from our Bonn University Ambassador Professor Pratyush Shankar from India’s Navrachana University, titled “The Promise of the City: Imagining the Future of Urban Communities in India.”

As the most populous country on Earth, India is a fascinating place when
it comes to planning and designing modern urban spaces. With a young
population and dynamic economy, Indian cities are developing at a rapid
pace, which is both exciting and challenging for urban planners and city
dwellers. The fact that urbanization rates in India are still comparatively low
means that more Indians move from rural to urban areas every year than
almost anywhere else in the world. At the same time, India is one of the
most diverse countries in the world with hundreds of languages and
cultures spread over thousands of kilometers on the Indian subcontinent.

As a result, architects, urban planners, and politicians can draw on an
abundant wealth of local and regional expertise and rich traditions, but
also have to navigate contradictions to achieve harmonious outcomes.
However, their efforts are bolstered by the fundamental optimism of the
Indian people – and underpinned by the utopian and global promise that
resonates within the words ‘urban’ and ‘urbane.’

Following the award ceremony, the Vice Rectorate for International Affairs invites all event guests to a reception in the Senatsaal.

In addition to members of our university leadership, many international guests, including our Bonn University Ambassadors from around the world, as well as representatives of the sponsoring governments and the DAAD, will attend the award ceremony.

In cooperation with the Studierendenwerk Bonn, the Vice Rectorate for International Affairs will open a space for international interaction and art at the Rabinstraße 8, the new location of the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Protestant Theology, and the Faculty of Catholic Theology. Leah's World Café is designed to promote international exchange and intercultural dialogue and also serve as an exhibition space for university projects with an international focus.

In addition to food and drinks, the café will also offer its visitors an insight into the story of a particularly remarkable alumna of the University of Bonn, Leah Goldberg. She began her academic career at the University of Bonn, where she received her doctorate from the Faculty of Philosophy in 1933 before establishing herself as a poet, translator, and writer. Shortly thereafter, she became a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which is a strategic partner university of the University of Bonn. Leah's World Café is a tribute to an outstanding scholar and writer. Learn even more by visiting the café!

Leah’s World Café will also open one of its walls to exhibitions with an international focus and invites the international community at the University to display works of art that express individual stories, cultural backgrounds and projects. Anyone can apply!

The team of the Vice Rectorate for International Affairs at the University of Bonn invites you to join them in opening this new space for diverse perspectives and lively exchange at our University.

Looking back on the 2024 International Days

The International Days 2024 once again focused on excellent young talent, international collaborations and global challenges. In addition to the traditional presentation of the state prizes and the DAAD Prize, the Vice Rectorate for International Affairs hosted informational events, lectures and workshops.

The 2024 International Days presented a new format: This year, they were organized jointly with the renowned cultural scientist and pioneer of postcolonial theory, Professor Homi K. Bhabha of Harvard University. This offered members of the University of Bonn a fantastic opportunity to get to know this outstanding researcher in various formats and with a variety of panelists.

Information on filming and photography

During the International Days, the University of Bonn arranges for photographs to be taken and filming to be done. This will be published online, in printed media and on social media channels for the purpose of promoting its activities. Please speak to our photographers and filming team on site if you and/or your children do not wish to be photographed or filmed.
