Current Position(s)

Professor of Philosophy

Research Interests:

My main area of research is the history of medieval philosophy and early modern thought. Since I have an education both in philosophy and theology, my projects also concern philosophy of religion and the metaphysical background of theological systems, both in historical and systematic perspective. In particular, since 2011 I am fully dedicated to the research project “Scholastica colonialis: Reception and Development of Baroque Scholasticism in Latin America in the Sixteenth to Eighteenth Centuries”, i.e., a project that launches a long-term, exhaustive investigation of the development of Baroque Scholastic philosophy in Latin America during the colonial period. The main purpose of the project is to write, under scientific basis, the history of philosophy (scholastic philosophy) in Latin America. For that purpose, the project aims at preparing catalogues of manuscripts and printed works that record colonial Scholastic thought, as well as careful analyses and editions of important authors and texts. More recently, I formulated two specific project connected to "Scholastica colonialis", one focused on the history of metaphysics in Latin American Scholasticism, and another one related to the normative analysis and criticism of Black Slavery by Latin American and Iberian thinkers of Early Modern Scholasticism. This last project has been conducted by me in close connection to the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bonn and the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies.
