FameLab Germany 2017 - Talking Science
12.01.2017 - FameLab Germany enters its seventh year
One of the most fun and entertaining science communication competetions returns to Germany. The first round will take place on Thursday, March 23rd in Bielefeld. Scientists from 21 years of age in the fields of natural science, technology, computer science, mathematics, medical science and psychology may participate.
Registration is now possible until March 9th.

Workshop "im Job-Interview überzeugen - Simulation von Vorstellungsgesprächen"
21.12.16 - Job-Interview Training of the Career Center - still places available
The german-speaking workshop focusses on conversational skills within a Job-interview, as well as nonverbal communication and the appearance of the applicants. After a short theoretical input practical exercises on response strategies regarding professional, personal and general questions within a Job-Interview will be emphasized.
The workshop is creditable with 8 points in the Promotion-Plus program and takes place from 8:00 until 18:30.
Participation fee: 70,00€

In cooperation with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) the program enables high qualified young researchers and doctoral students from germany a short-term research stay in Japan.

Workshop "Promovieren mit Erfolg" for International Doctoral Researchers
21.11.2016 - Thesis Finalizing Management and Profile Reinforcement for your career start
The german-language workshop offered by the International Office targets international doctoral researchers in or from the 2nd PhD year and will take place december 2, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the International Office. The instructor is Dr. Anouschka Strang.
GESIS Spring Seminar “Causal Inference with Observational Data”
18.11.2016 - 46th GESIS Spring Seminar "Casual Inference with Observational Data"
The seminar is a teaching program for social scientists held in Cologne March 6-24, 2017, consiting of three training courses for social scientists (and researchers from neighboring disciplines) interested in advanced techniques of data analysis and in the application of these techniques to data including lectures and hands-on exercises.

The Klaus Tischra foundation looks for young researchers, who describe their extraordinary research illustratively and comprehensibly. The best paper will be awarded the Klaus Tschira Award, named 'KlarText'.

Orientation Counselling for the Career Start
31.10.2016 - Deadline extension for the orientation counselling
Orientation counselling for the career start - Offer of the Career Center of the University of Bonn in cooperation with the Agentur für Arbeit Bonn. You can register for a 45 minutes lasting individual consultation in which you will discuss your questions regarding your career start. The consultation will be in GERMAN.
Deadline to register for the counselling on November 22 is now November 13, 2016.
New team member Joana Bürger-John joins the Bonn Graduate Center
05.10.2016 - Baton change: Alice Blanksma (left) hands over to our new team member Joana Bürger-John. Alice supported us fantastically for two years and we wish our trusted colleague all the best for her future! We are very happy to welcome Joana who is with us since October 1, 2016. Joana is joining us from the Welcome Centre at the University of Bonn. As event manager she will especially by a point of contact regarding our skills and training program Promotion plus.

30.08.2016 - In the framework of the successful program "IPID4all" (International promovieren in Deutschland - für alle) the Bonn Graduate Center is offering a number of fundings. There will be awards for international second supervisors visiting Bonn, doctoral workshops, invitations to Bonn research alumni and international conference participation of Bonn doctoral researchers. For the first time, the Bonn Graduate Center will also fund one-month research stays abroad.

28.06.2016 - IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca offers a multidisciplinary PhD program that integrates scientific competences of economis, engineering, computer science, neurosciences and behavioral psychology, physics, applied physics and mathematics, statistics and cultural heritage.

04.05.2016 – Bonn Graduate Center is delighted to award their certificate "Promotion plus" for the first time. This certificate lists the workshops and seminars doctoral students can attend in the framework of the Skills Training Program.

DIES und DAS - "Forum young academics" at Dies Academicus
04.05.2016 - At Dies Academicus, the "Forum young academics" allows young scholars to present their research results and ideas to a larger audience. Inspired by the "Science Year 2016/17 – Seas and Oceans", the superordinate topic is "Water matters". Presentations will be in German and English.

German preselection for the international ideas competition "Falling Walls Lab" at Jülich Research Center
04.05.2016 - The German preselection for the international ideas competition "Falling Walls Lab" gives master and doctoral students, postdocs and young entrepreneurs the opportunity to submit a research project, a business idea or a social initiative untill 13.05. 2016 and present it on 04.07.2016 at Jülich research Center. The successful candidate will present their idea in November in Berlin to leading academic, economic, and social innovators!

17.03.2016 - The new summer program "Promotion plus" offers a broad varierty of workshops and seminars for doctoral researchers. Please find an overview of the offerings as well as course registration here.
How Happy are Doctoral Researchers in Bonn?
15.03.2016 – The large doctoral survey conducted in fall 2014 targeted this question. The answers given by more than 1,200 participants have now been evaluated and can be looked up in the detailed survey results (in German). The current rectorate lead by rector Michael Hoch wants to ensure doctoral researchers have the best possible conditions in Bonn. For this reason, the rectorate has already taken measures in reaction to the feedback voiced in the doctoral survey. The Bonn Graduate Center will expand its offerings within the training and orientation program “Promotion plus”, particularly in English. A new newsletter will keep doctoral researchers informed on new developments and news. The rectorate has additionally decided to strengthen the Bonn International Graduate Schools and to implement new support formats for doctoral researchers.
Ph.D. Movie 2 at Bonn University
15.03.2016 – In April 2016, the Ph.D. Movie 2 is coming to Bonn. With support from the Bonn University Society the Department for Corporate Communications proudly presents the second part of the movie by Jorge Cham, author of the popular Ph.D. Comics, in which the worries and and hardships of graduate students' life is described in an entertaining way. The screenings in English language will take place here:

17.02.2016 – The Bonn Graduate Center is happy to announce the results of the raffle for participants in the international doctoral researchers' survey: Ms Fayrouz El Maddah (Pharmaceutical Biology) and Mr Hatem Abdelhalim (Electrochemistry) each won one high-quality eBook Reader. Congratulations!
The international doctoral researchers’ survey 2015 was conducted subsequently to the online survey among all Bonn doctoral researchers and specifically targeted the interests and needs of international doctoral staudents at the University of Bonn. The results of both surveys will be published soon.
Open call for conference participations and stipends to invite international supervisors
28.01.2016 - The Bonn Graduate Center is happy to continue its support for international research activities of doctoral researchers within the DAAD funded program “International Promovieren in Deutschland – for all (IPID4all)“. You are welcome to apply for the funding of participation in an international conference as well as for stipends to invite international supervisors to take part in bi-national doctoral proceedings in Bonn. Please find both announcements and the online application forms here. Deadline for both calls is February 29, 2016. We are looking forward to your applications!
Participate in FameLab!
28.01.2016 - The British council is hosting "FameLab – Talking Science”, an international competition to find the best new talent in science communication. The aim of FameLab is to encourage young scientists to inspire and excite the public’s imagination with a vision of science in the 21st century. On stage, candidates have just three minutes to present their topic to a panel of expert judges and to win over the non-scientific audience by being entertaining and original as well as scientifically accurate. (Presentations can be held in German or English.) Deadline for the first round is March 24, 2016.

Scholarships for doctoral studies in Taiwan
10.01.2016 - Academia Sinica from Taiwan is awarding PhD scholarships to international graduates from natural sciences starting in the winter semester 2016/17. In cooperation with the a consortium of key national research universities, the Academia Sinica offers 12 interdisciplinary PhD programs in various subject areas such as biology, chemistry, medicine, informatics, nano science and technology as well as earth sciences.
"Careers with a Doctorate" was a great success
17.12.2015 - The first career day for international doctoral researchers in Bonn on October 30 was a great success. More than 80 doctoral researchers from various departments and subjects at the University of Bonn spent an afternoon and evening exchanging their views on career perspectives in academia and beyond. Please find some impressions from "Careers with a doctorate" in the following video. The video podcasts also document the opening lecture on academic careers paths in Germany as well as the round table discussion with rector Prof Dr Michael Hoch, educational researcher Antje Wegner and Junior Prof Dr Petr Sedlacek from Bonn.

10.12.2015 - As part of the Bonn Research Alumni strategy and the program “International Promovieren in Deutschland – for all” (IPID4all) promoted by the DAAD, the Bonn Graduate Center is supporting doctoral workshops with international visiting scholars at the University of Bonn. Funding can be received for workshops or similar formats in which doctoral researchers, international guest scholars and, if applicable, further international experts jointly explore an academic topic. 30.10.2015 - The survey ties in with the larger doctoral survey in 2014 and is particularly meant to aid in the improvement of offerings for international doctoral students of the University of Bonn. 07.10.2015 - "Careers with a Doctorate - A Day for International Doctoral Researchers" is an event specifically targeting international doctoral researchers at the University of Bonn. The day will inform on career perspectives in German academia and beyond. The event on October 30, 2015 will beginn at 2:00 p.m. and end with a get-together and free dinner reception. Please see here for further information. An early registration is recommended as participation is limited. Registration deadline is October 22, 2015.

Uni Bonn is 44th Member of UniWiND
12.09.2015 - The University of Bonn has joined the Universitätsverband zur Qualifizierung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses in Deutschland (UniWiND) this winter term. UniWIND aims at improving conditions for doctoral researchers and young Postdocs in the early stages of their careers to enhance their perspectives for successful careers within and outside the university. With the UniWIND membership, the Bonn Graduate Center hopes to further improve its offerings for doctoral researchers and postdocs from Bonn.

The lecture organized by the Bonn Graduate Center was part of the rectorate's series "Zukunft der Universität - Denkanstöße-".

01.05.2015 - The University of Bonn has the goal to guide its scientific/academic young scholars to obtaining a doctoral degree in the structured framework of graduate schools. In order to ensure the highest quality standards here, the Bonn International Graduate Schools (BIGS) were established.
