University of Bonn joins national and international sustainability alliances

The University of Bonn joined two major sustainability alliances in 2021.

Studierendenwerk starts out the year on 100% green electricity

All 38 Studierendenwerk buildings at the University of Bonn have been powered exclusively by green electricity since January 1, 2022, which will mean roughly 1,000 tons less in CO2 emissions each year.

Sustainable coffee enjoyment with LogiCUPs. Since 2018, the Studierendenwerk Bonn has been using reusable cups instead of disposable ones.

Campus Store Goes Green

From T-shirts and hoodies to mugs and stationery, the University of Bonn’s Campus Store stocks all kinds of different things for students and fans of the University. The products, which have been designed specially for the University, are made by the Cologne-based agency WE ARE CAMPUS. Located right by the University of Bonn Information Desk, the Campus Store sells a collection that is truly unique, being both stylish and sustainable.

Launch of the University of Bonn “Green Office”

In an opening celebration, the new sustainability office run by University of Bonn students presented its first joint initiative with NEiS15 (Verbraucherzentrale NRW) and the Studierendenwerk17 themed “Foodsharing in Germany – Enjoying Food, Sharing Knowledge”, which focused on providing tips on avoiding food waste and information on exciting projects at the University.

City cycling for a good climate

In this year's city cycling competition, the University of Bonn team received three awards. "We are happy about everyone who cycles along and thus sets a great example for sustainable mobility," said Prorector Scheersoi at the ceremony in the Old City Hall.
