Ideas Competition @Uni Bonn

Knowledge at the University of Bonn is diverse, innovative and relevant for society. It arises from studies and theses, from dissertations and research projects. But how do these explorations find their way into practice - in business, politics or civil society? Through you and your ideas! The ideas competition of the Transfer Center enaCom at the University of Bonn is the ideal opportunity to turn your ideas into reality.

We will provide individual feedback for your idea and offer prizes of up to 1,000 euros. Let us support you in your implementation, fulfill your dream of your own start-up or make your research accessible to the economy and society.

What kind of ideas are wanted?

You have an idea that transfers knowledge from the University of Bonn into practice?
It is either a start-up project, a social innovation project or a valorization project?

Yes? Then we are keen to learn of your idea. Please hand in your idea sketch answering the following questions:

  1. Describe the problem to be solved and for whom it exists.
  2. Describe your idea and how it will help to solve the problem.
  3. How can your solution be implemented into practice?  As a start-up project, a social innovation project or a valorization project?
  4. To what extent does your solution come from the University of Bonn or from knowledge of the University?
  5. How can the University of Bonn specifically contribute to your solution?

What does start-up mean?

Start-ups are characterized by an innovative business idea. At the University of Bonn, these are often based on new scientific procedures or  research results (e.g. Bachelor/Master thesis; dissertation). Within the framework of the ideas competition, a research-oriented start-up idea can be developed, but a self-developed start-up idea can also be pursued.

What does social innovation mean?

Social innovation refers to all those new ideas for products, services and models that solve a social problem more effectively than existing approaches. In this context, a social innovation consists of a new form of collaboration at the individual or organizational level. Such an innovation can have a positive impact on society, improve the quality of life and/or change social relationships. The focus is on social or ecological added value; profits are seen as a means to an end.

What does valorization mean?

By an valorization project we mean the translation of (research) ideas into practice (e.g. market, politics, society). This can happen, for example, through collaboration in a cooperative project with companies or social actors such as NGOs or public institutions. The creation of a novel product or service - beyond a start-up idea of one's own - can be the goal of an valorization project.

Who can participate?

The ideas competition calls for ideas from all members of the university: students, researchers, employees, alumni up to 3 years after graduation. Participation is possible as an individual and as a team. At least one member of each team must be a member of the University of Bonn.

Excluded from the competition are start-up ideas on the basis of which the formal foundation and start-up of the business activity has already taken place.

What’s in for you?
