Welcome to MaLiS Club!

The "MaLiS" Club meets regularly to discuss ongoing projects around mathematical questions in medicine and life sciences, either at the Venusberg Campus or in Endenich/Poppelsdorf. Interested scientists from the University of Bonn and cooperating local institutions are welcome to participate. The “MaLiS” Club is financially supported by TRA Life and Health and TRA Modelling.

2nd Bonn Conference on Mathematical Life Sciences

From March 16 to 19 2026, the Bonn Center for Mathematical Life Sciences is hosting the Bonn Conference on Mathematical Life Sciences in the beautiful city of Bonn. The conference will take place at the Auditorium Centre Poppelsdorf.

The Bonn Conference on Mathematical Life Sciences is envisioned as an international gathering, dedicated to research and applications at the interface of mathematics and life sciences.

BMBF-Funding for Modelling Project in Tumor Organoids

Congratulations to Elena Reckzeh and Jan Hasenauer for securing BMBF funding for the innovative project ISPOT-K: The ISPOT-K-team will create organoids from patient-derived colorectal tumors and treat them with several cancer drugs. In a next step, the obained data will be correlated with further molecular and physiolocial patient data to create a digital twin to simulate reactions for possible treatment options. This is done in collaboration with the company MSPlabs/ESQlabs. This may eventually facilitate truly personalized treatment options for cancer patients!

Bonn Conference on Mathematical Life Sciences - a huge success!

More than 200 scientists discussed at the four-day symposium of TRAs "Modelling" and "Life and Health" as well as Clusters of Excellence HCM and ImmunoSensation² the current state of the research activities and potential future development in the field of mathematical modelling in the life sciences.

IRU Mathematics and Life Sciences, University of Bonn

The Interdisciplinary Research Unit Mathematics and Life Sciences houses three groups (Effland, Hasenauer, Thurley) at the interface of the ImmunoSensation and HCM Clusters of Excellence. With the combined expertise gathered here, we have a unique opportunity to create new mathematical models impacting the understanding of the immune system and diseases. The research topics range from information processing, immune response dynamics, treatment protocol modeling, sparse data in single cell approaches, cell behavior prediction, image analysis, and dynamic image analysis in the context of immune responses.
