North Rhine-Westphalian Coordination Office for Translation Matters in Higher Education (LKS NRW)
The LKS NRW was set up at the University of Bonn in February 2026. It acts as a central point of contact for public universities in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), supporting them with the linguistic aspects of internationalization.
Services
The following services are offered via an online platform:
- Translations (German to English) of administrative documents that are relevant for all universities in NRW
- A bilingual (German/ English) terminology database
- Topic-specific glossaries that can also be integrated into machine translation tools or used in the context of AI-supported translation
- Machine translations for universities that don’t have the relevant licenses themselves
- Proofreading of English administrative texts
- Training sessions, especially on the effective use of machine translation tools
As a rule, the services offered by the LKS NRW are available to all administrative and academic staff at the 36 public universities in NRW. If you would like to receive an access code for the online platform, please email landeskoordinationsstelle.nrw@uni-bonn.de.
Project
The LKS NRW is funded by the NRW Ministry of Culture and Science. It was established in February 2026 and has an initial project term of two years. Similar coordination offices exist in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und Rhineland-Palatinate.
