Starting the New Semester

Re-registration

If you wish to continue your studies at the University of Bonn, you must re-register each semester. The deadline for re-registering is February 28/29 for the summer semester and August 31 for the winter semester. To re-register, simply pay the semester fee for the upcoming semester.

What needs to be done?

To re-register, please pay the full semester fee via bank transfer by the end of August for the upcoming winter semester. The deadline for the summer semester is the end of February. For the exact deadlines, see Key Semester Dates.

Students who applied for a leave of absence for one of the following reasons for the upcoming winter or summer semester only pay a reduced semester fee.

  • Stays abroad as part of the studies
  • Completion of Federal Voluntary Service
  • Illness that leaves the student unable to complete their studies as planned

Students on leave for other reasons (e.g. for completing a relevant internship, for caring and providing for relatives and children in need of care, for pregnancy-related and other important reasons) have to pay the full semester fee.

Continuing education students pay a reduced semester fee. If you are unsure which fee applies to you, feel free to contact the degree program coordinator.

If you paid the semester fee on time and in full, you will receive your semester documents automatically. They will be mailed to your contact address. Before making your payment, please log into study services to check whether your address is still correct.

Always from the beginning of the re-registration period for the following semester, you will find here the exact amount of the social contribution to be paid as well as the information on the transfer. Go to study services

If you pay after the deadline, you must add € 5.00 to your payment as a late charge. The digital student ID Card will then be available in the Uni Bonn App.

Beginning in mid-April (summer semester) or mid-October (winter semester), late or incomplete payments may lead to your deregistration ex officio. If you are enrolled in a degree program with admission restrictions in higher program-related semesters, this means you may lose your place in the program because places that become available are given to those who applied for these in a timely manner (e.g. students transferring to Bonn from another university).
