Vice Rectorate for Research and Early-Career Researchers

Vice Rector Professor Dr. Andreas Zimmer has been a member of the University of Bonn Rectorate since 2015. He has been responsible for the area of research and early-career researchers since May 2021. His duties as Vice Rector include implementation of the Excellence Strategy, quality assurance in research, provision and optimization of research infrastructure, promotion and expansion of interdisciplinary research networks, University-wide collaboration in the TRAs and cooperation with research institutions outside the University. The goals and responsibilities for the “early-career researcher” area include establishing a first-class research environment that gives early-career researchers the freedom to express their creativity. The Vice Rector’s duties also include the development of comprehensive qualification programs to prepare doctoral students, postdocs and assistant professors for the next stages in their careers and the expansion of mentoring programs for early-career researchers to establish interdisciplinary and inter-institutional networks.

Strategy

As one of the top research universities in the world, the University of Bonn plays an important role in ensuring Germany’s leadership in science and technology. The University stands for excellence in research across the full spectrum of academic disciplines, including the humanities and social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences, agriculture and medicine. This strength is based on outstanding expertise in the core academic disciplines and exceptional interaction and cooperation between disciplines. This cooperation has been institutionalized in our Transdisciplinary Research Areas. We promote the research creativity and independence of our early-career researchers by creating an environment of responsibility and providing targeted support.
