Dr. Patrycja Kielb is a junior professor of biohybrid research in the transdisciplinary research area “Building Blocks of Matter and Fundamental Interactions” (TRA Matter) at the University of Bonn. She holds an Argelander professorship, which led her to “We Are Uni Bonn.”
BioSpectroelectrochemistry
BioSpectroelectrochemistry of natural and artificial metalloproteins is the specialty of junior professor Dr. Patrycja Kieln. She and her team are researching how nature carries out complex redox reactions, which are key processes in the environment and in life, such as the degradation of biomass or cellular respiration. The research team wants to understand how the unparalleled efficiency of such natural biological systems can be harnessed and further developed for the creation of artificial biohybrid systems that can be used in bioelectronic devices.

Multidisciplinary laboratory
The Argelander professor says of her mission: “For me, the University of Bonn is the perfect place to set up a multidisciplinary laboratory, and I am looking forward to many exciting collaborations.” Her experimental approach combines protein engineering and biochemistry, biophysics, and bioinorganic and physical chemistry.
The 33-year-old is established in the transdisciplinary research area “Building Blocks of Matter and Fundamental Interactions,” where researchers aim to study nature on different length scales in order to understand how the building blocks of matter interact with each other and how complex structures arise.
