Christian Bayer

The economist Christian Bayer is a professor of macroeconomics at the University of Bonn and has been conducting international research on the topic of inequality for many years. He has already received three ERC grants for this, and is now applying for his fourth. He conducts research with colleagues worldwide, supporting young researchers wherever possible. Regarding his team, Bayer says: "We are the University of Bonn."

Young researchers are key, including in research

New ideas, a breath of fresh air, ambition, and perseverance: Christian Bayer conducts research with the best researchers worldwide and challenges and supports young researchers.
Christian Bayer: "My research focuses on heterogeneity, for example, the connection between economic shocks and inequality in the population. The involvement of young researchers is important to me. Here, doctoral students work on equal terms with experienced researchers. Both generations strengthen each other."

Observing (In)equality

Too much inequality harms society as a whole in all areas, not least the economy. Christian Bayer observes economic shocks and their effects on all segments of society. The economist also focuses on "eye-level" within his own team: Those who work together on common topics for years must be willing to do so, both professionally and personally, according to his credo.
