“TrinkBar” starts at first-ever University of Bonn Science Festival

The first-ever Science Festival at the University of Bonn was held on the Hofgartenwiese on July 9. Guests big and small had been invited to learn more about the University’s activities and research areas at numerous stalls.

The topic of sustainability was also well represented. With temperatures soaring, the “TrinkBar” (“drink bar,” but also “drinkable” in German) run by Team N (the Vice Rectorate for Sustainability and the Sustainability Unit) proved especially popular. Here, a drinking water tasting gave visitors the opportunity to see for themselves how delicious tap water tastes and whether they could even tell the difference between it and various mineral waters. They could also take part in a water quiz at the same time to brush up on their water-related knowledge.

The stall staffed by the Sustainable Futures Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) invited interested passersby to test what they knew about the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and learn more about sustainable development—via the medium of an oversized game of Jenga!

The links between flying robots, plant proteins, honey bees and a sustainable future were also explored.
