Transfer Center enaCom

We see ourselves as an intermediary, translator and catalyst between science and stakeholders outside the scientific community. Our work focuses on making research results available for the benefits of society. enaCom is the central point of contact for all matters relating to University knowledge and technology transfer – for University of Bonn members and everyone else being interested to co-operate with us.

Frank Holz Nominated for “Science Breakthrough of the Year 2026”
In what will go down as an outstanding success for the University of Bonn’s Faculty of Medicine, Professor Frank G. Holz—Director of the Ophthalmology Clinic at the University Hospital Bonn and a professor at the University—has been shortlisted for the “Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year 2026” in the Life Sciences category. His project thus ranks among the year’s top 30 scientific innovations in this category according to the prestigious Falling Walls Science Summit. Even making it onto the shortlist is a sign of significant international acclaim. The winners in the individual categories will be crowned at the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin from November 6 to 11.
Inspiration at the Start-up Open Day
At the Start-up Open Day in July, numerous visitors had the opportunity to experience everything happening in the start-up scene at the University of Bonn and learn about the resources and services the Transfer Center enaCom offers to all members of the university community. At the event, the enaCom start-up and innovation consulting team presented their work, alongside numerous other start-up enthusiasts who are driving new ideas forward at the university. Among them were the Institute for Entrepreneurship, the “Uni Bonn spielt” community, and, of course, many founders.
Start-up project "ReRetina” honored as by the GeneNovate® entrepreneurship program
The Bonn-based start-up project ReRetina (Eye Clinic, University Hospital Bonn) has won the GeneNovate® Entrepreneurship Program. The award marked the conclusion of the third round of the nationwide program under the National Strategy for Gene- and Cell-Based Therapies (National GCT Strategy) in Munich at the end of June.
University of Bonn Secures Three Proof of Concept Grants
Three University of Bonn researchers have been awarded a Proof of Concept Grant by the European Research Council (ERC). Neuroscientist Professor Dominik Bach, chemist Assistant Professor Ala Bunescu and radiologist Professor Philipp Vollmuth (from the University Hospital Bonn) are each receiving €150,000 over a period of 18 months. This program helps researchers to take findings from their work and turn them into commercial products or services.

Transfer Strategy

The University of Bonn has adopted a transfer strategy that describes the central aspects and objectives of knowledge and technology transfer. It serves as an orientation for a common understanding of transfer that promotes the exchange between science and society, which takes place at different levels and by different means. With its Excellence Strategy, the University of Bonn emphasizes its impact orientation and would like to systematically expand this further.

Communion

enaCom is committed to promoting transfer of knowledge and technology. We combine different transfer activities from all research areas of the University. We document successful transfer formats and give them visibility. We present best practices from within the University and act as a showcase for the most exciting transfer projects to the outside world.

Communication

enaCom informs about innovative research results close to application. We talk about science offering meet-ups for different stakeholders in business and society. As a central point of contact and gateway for co-operation, we connect all stakeholders inside and outside the University.

Commitment

enaCom is committed to all stakeholders interested in knowledge exchange; researchers and students, as well as practitioners and citizens outside the academic community. Dialogue promotes a broad, research-based transfer of knowledge. We therefore speak both languages, the language of academics and the language of professionals.

Companion

enaCom provides individual consulting and assistance to support the multidimensional transfer activities of the University. We always help existing and future partners inside and outside the University and provide unbureaucratic, efficient service.

Commercialisation

enaCom handles all matters concerning utilization of the excellent research results achieved by the University. We provide information on the options available for protecting intellectual property rights and how to bring inventions to start-up.
