The "grand challenges", such as the consequences of climate change, the question of mobility and migration, as well as the rapid changes in society through digitalization and artificial intelligence, affect all people. The question of the appropriate perception, description, and interpretation of these complexes of phenomena is central, because their semantization already forms possible actors and spaces of action through the use of certain concepts, categories, linguistic images, and value patterns. Different semantizations thus lead to specific ideas of agency and integrity within the presented future scenarios. It is precisely this relationship that is to be investigated in the project. The analytical connection of the terms semantization, agency and integrity is innovative. These are understood as mutually constituting in an interrelation, whereby the processuality of the struggle for an adequate description of the future can be elaborated and conceptualized.

"Rhetoric and Pragmatics of the Strategic Use of Truth and Reliability in Times of Political and Social Crisis." Following the conference "'Thou Shalt Not Lie.' On the Hermeneutics of the Talk of the Postfactual" (2017) and the prize question "What is Behind the Talk of the 'Postfactual'? Lie, Bullshit, Illusionary Self-Deception, or ...?", the discussion of the new political and social salability of the lie, exemplified by Trump, its function of longing projection and its dangerous legitimization through the speech of the postfactual will be continued in conversation with the prize winners.

This series of six lectures looks at the successes, as well as the failures, in the search of artificial intelligence and uses them as a window into the larger question of what this search can tell us about shifts in how we conceive of what it is to be human. The series will be hosted by Zed Adams and Markus Gabriel.
