Handelnd hoffen oder hoffend handeln? Zum Verhältnis von Ethik und Eschatologie aus exegetisch-neutestamentlicher und systematische Perspektive How do apocalypse and imminent expectations affect human actions? This question, which arises in view of the religious history of apocalypticism for the various writings of the NT, has (again) systematic relevance in the present. On the one hand, this results from the loss of significance of the progress model for the present and from the increasing diagnosis of an end-time crisis situation. On the other hand, it results more acutely from the cosmo- and process-theological revisions of the old transcendence-immanence opposition. Does God ultimately act through man, who no longer subdues the earth, but who causes the catastrophe? And what options for action are then still conceivable? The workshop will address these questions between New Testament and systematic approaches.

The world today is increasingly dominated by a new domain - a domain that is both the cause and consequence of cutting-edge developments in technology: Cyber. But Cyber is more than a technology, a product, or a tool. Cyber is the unseen organizing principle at the core of the modern human condition, and it has reconfigured power structures and human interaction around the world. The film Cyber Everything is an exploration of this new domain – its implications on war, peace, and the future of humanity. It features AI and internet pioneers, philosophers, artists, and us, the users, who shape it as much as we are shaped by it. The fragile tension between control and loss of control is critically discussed on the basis of contemporary phenomena such as the Internet, Big Data and the dangers of cyber war. Against this backdrop, the guiding thread of the investigation constricts into an open-ended but inescapable question: What is the future of humanity in the cyber world?

DETECTING UNUSUAL CONSCIOUSNESS: FROM BRAIN ORGANOIDS TO AI SYSTEMS Bonn, 27–28 September 2023 Are some brain organoids, or sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) systems (e.g., ChatGPT 4) conscious? In some cases, it may seem so. But how can we tell? The Center for Science and Thought (CST) at the University of Bonn and the Epileptology Clinic of Bonn invite abstracts for talks at a two-day conference. The conference will focus on unusual candidates for consciousness such as isolated hemispheres after split brain or hemispherotomy surgery, and advanced AI systems (e.g., ChatGPT). The main aim of the conference is to explore cases and investigate what kind of (traditional or innovative) demarcation criteria could be used to detect whether an entity or its local states are conscious.
