What is particularly impressive is that the University is among the top ten in Germany in at least twelve subjects and among the top five in at least five. It has defended its leading position in Germany in two key subjects, retaining the number one spots for Mathematics and Economics that it has held for a few years now.
The University of Bonn remains a strong performer in the international arena too, making it into the top 100 for seven subjects. Mathematics succeeded in more or less maintaining its outstanding result from 2025 against the international competition, coming in 27th in the world. Economics climbed back into the world’s top 50 at 49th, while Agricultural Sciences and Human Biological Sciences both finished in the 51st–75th group.
There have also been some pleasing developments in the more technical and practical subjects, with Robotic Science & Engineering keeping up its strong showing in the 51st–75th group and both Medical Technology and Biotechnology securing spots in the world’s top 100. Environmental Science & Engineering also improved and is now in the 201st–300th group.
Over 2,000 universities from 100 countries were evaluated for this year’s rankings. They are based on nine indicators, including the volume of publications, citation impact, international co-publications, prizes and awards, and various criteria for scoring high-caliber researchers.
