Annette Kurschus to be honored in Bonn on Day of Prayer and Repentance

The ecumenical "Sermon Prize", which is based at the Protestant Palace Church of the University of Bonn and has been awarded since 2000, has a special topicality this year: the prize winner Dr. h.c. Annette Kurschus, Praeses of the Protestant Church of Westphalia, has just been elected chairwoman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). This has been brought to attention by the Dean of the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Bonn, Prof. Dr. Cornelia Richter.

"There are coincidences at times that just make you happy! This year, with gratifying foresight, the jury has hit a 'bull's eye,'" says Dean Richter. The Preaching Award is receiving nationwide attention from the professional community. This year, the sermon prize for the "best sermon" will be awarded to Marco Voigt of the Evangelical and Catholic Radio and Television Church in NDR, and Dr. Annette Kurschus will receive the prize in the "lifetime achievement" category.

Dr. Kurschus will receive the sermon prize on the Day of Repentance and Prayer next Wednesday, November 17, during a ceremony at the Namen-Jesu church, Bonngasse 8. Registration for the event is requested by e-mail to schlosskirche@uni-bonn.de.
