The University of Bonn has proven particularly strong on individual grants, attracting over €3.64 million in funding and securing 4th place in Germany. No fewer than 336 people were supported with international grants, putting the University 7th out of its peers.
Bonn a highly popular destination for international guests
The University of Bonn is likewise an excellent performer when it comes to securing funding for international students and researchers, with 260 individual grant recipients coming from abroad. This put the University 5th in Germany (2024: 6th) in absolute terms and 11th relative to student numbers. A further 76 recipients came from Germany, a category in which the University placed 10th.
The University of Bonn is also among the largest recipients of institutional funding for projects and programs, with the DAAD’s statistics indicating roughly €5.5 million for this, including €2.6 million for ongoing Erasmus projects.
The DAAD has prepared funding statistics for its member institutions since 2000, covering both spending on grants and numbers of recipients. It names the 100 higher-education institutions receiving the most funding, both in absolute terms and relative to student numbers.
Internationally interconnected and exceptionally mobile
The University of Bonn enjoys some outstanding links with other countries. With its excellent relationships with prestigious universities and research institutions all over the globe, it sees itself as a key player in the international knowledge society. This understanding of its purpose is echoed in the high percentage of international students that it welcomes, the highly mobile nature of its own students, and the consistently strong demand for research visits to Bonn shown by internationally mobile researchers.
