I recently started my new position at the University of Bonn, as the Chair for the new Institute for Neurovascular Cell Biology. The research in this newly funding institute is focused on understanding the properties of the vasculature within the central nervous system (CNS). We aim to address questions as: how is the CNS vascularized?, how do blood vessels grow into the different CNS areas?, how are CNS-specific vascular properties specified and maintained? What are the molecular mechanisms of the cellular crosstalk between vascular cells and the different cells of the CNS? and how are those crosstalk modified in disease conditions? To answer those questions we use in vivo models (mouse), ex vivo organotypic cultures as well as primary cell culture. All this combined with state of the art biochemistry, molecular biology and imaging techniques.
