Accessibility and diversity are key pillars of modern higher education. They enable all students to participate on an equal footing regardless of their background, abilities or circumstances as well as fostering innovation and strengthening educational justice. “Digital Accessibility Toolbox” for ILIAS

The “Digital Accessibility Toolbox” on the eCampus learning platform offers a wealth of information on digital accessibility in teaching. It includes ILIAS training modules covering the basics, statutory obligations, assistive technologies, checklists, and much more.

Creating accessible instructional videos

The eCampus team offers a transcription service to create accessible teaching videos, which lecturers at the University of Bonn can task with subtitling their teaching materials.

The Kompetenzzentrum Digitale Barrierefreiheit (“Digital Accessibility Center of Expertise”) helps higher-education institutions in NRW to implement statutory digital accessibility requirements. Here you can find heaps of handy hints, sets of guidelines, checklists and other helpful material.

Testing the accessibility of digital tools

Accessibility and diversity are cross-cutting issues and thus form an integral part of various workshops at the BZH, which also runs an annual workshop devoted to accessible teaching (usually in the winter semester).
