TRA & ART: Komödie der Einsamkeit

Panel discussion based on the play by Jan Neumann and the ensemble

Monday, April 20, 2026

6:30–8:00 p.m., Evangelical Church Pavilion (Kaiserplatz 1 | 53113 Bonn)

The Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) Individuals, Institutions, and Societies, in collaboration with Theater Bonn,  invites you to a dynamic exchange between the arts and academia.

Together, we will explore where and how we experience different forms of loneliness, and what artistic expressions might emerge, for example, from the interplay between loneliness and social transformation:

Where do we experience loneliness?

How does loneliness mark, reinforce, assert, or breach the boundaries between the inner and the outer worlds?

Does loneliness help us process social transformations, or is it reinforced by them?

Does loneliness lead to “conspiracy ideation” as a personality trait?

How do we deal with death as a dimension of loneliness?

Are there differences between social, emotional, and romantic loneliness?

The focus is on a discussion between members of the theater’s acting ensemble and three scholars from various disciplines at the University of Bonn:

  • Prof. Dr. Kathrin Hörschelmann (Cultural Geography)
  • PD Dr. Katharina Opalka (Protestant Theology & Pastor)
  • Daniel Stock (Actor)
  • Emely Voltz (Psychology)
  • Carmen Wolfram (Head of the Acting Department and Associate Director of Acting)
  • Other members of the acting ensemble, if applicable (more information to follow shortly)
  • Moderation: Johanna Tix (Manager of the TRA Individuals, Institutions, and Societies)
