The objective of the tenure track model is to provide early-career researchers with an alternative route to a professorship. The University of Bonn aims to recruit and retain outstanding young research talent from Germany and around the world. Tenure track is an attractive career path for young academics, offering the prospect of promotion to a permanent professorial post after successfully completing the mandatory evaluation stage.

The Tenure-Track Committee
Each faculty has a tenure track committee that oversees the relevant tenure track procedures, from the initial job announcement to the final evaluation.
The central tenure track committee at the University of Bonn (University Tenure Track Committee) monitors compliance with the assessment criteria while taking appropriate account of faculty and departmental cultures. Based on the individual’s tenure track file and the opinions of the faculty tenure track committee and the faculty council, the University Tenure Track Committee will issue a recommendation to the Rectorate on whether the relevant professorship should be extended or made permanent. The University Tenure Track Committee corresponds to the Committee for Special Appointments pursuant to the University’s appointment regulations.
