Campus Poppelsdorf begins operations in two phases Campus Poppelsdorf: new buildings open in two phases

The University of Bonn will begin operating the new buildings on Campus Poppelsdorf sequentially. As planned, students will be able to use the lecture hall from winter semester 2017/2018. The two institute buildings will open for the start of summer semester 2018.

Putting a new building into operation is somewhat of a trial.Often, technical defects are only revealed when the building's technology isconnected to the users’ technical interfaces. This was the case for thethree buildings on Poppelsdorf Campus after Bau- und LiegenschaftsbetriebNRW (BLB NRW) took-over from the general contractor this spring and handed thesite over to the University of Bonn.

As deficiencies in the lecture hall are limited, theUniversity can open this building in time for the beginning of the wintersemester. Opening the two institute buildings, however, will be delayed. Eventhough deficiencies could be rectified in time, no unnecessary risksshall be taken.

"We regret the new delay, but agree with the BLB thatthe security of university members and stability in daily operations has priorityover a quick get-in", says University chancellor Holger Gottschalk.
