Dominik Bach
Prof. Dr. Dominik Bach is the Hertz Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience at the University of Bonn. His appointment as Hertz Professor brought him to We Are Uni Bonn.
Understanding Biology with AI
Bach's research uses artificial intelligence to better understand biological intelligence: how it is activated in the central nervous system and how it fails in neuropsychiatric disorders. His model system is threat avoidance in humans. He and his team aim to understand how people elegantly avoid real threats in their natural environment—and why some people (also) fear and avoid situations that are not actually threatening. The goal: to help advance the treatment of mental illnesses.

Further developing brain imaging
It is important to the Hertz Professor that his team consists of people who have studied very different fields and are willing to share their distinct areas of expertise so that today’s complex, interdisciplinary challenges can be successfully addressed.
Prof. Dr. Dominik Bach recently received nearly four million euros in funding for the construction of a new OPMEG infrastructure. The funding comes from the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and the EU as part of the EFRE/JTF-NRW program.
