Mathematics

As a structural science or science of formal systems, mathematics aims at proving statements regarding mathematical structures and objects using logic. Especially in applied mathematics, experiments and empirical knowledge provide means and impulse to formulate such statements. Based on these statements or assumptions (axioms) that are presumed to be true, mathematicians develop theories that are transferable and applicable to as many real-life scenarios as possible.

In order to be able to come up with such universal assumptions, students attain basic skills in mathematical work using analytical, algebraic and algorithmic methods. Extensive subject didactic knowledge is also taught to enable them to pass these methods and ways of thinking on to students. In the elective areas, general and teaching-degree-specific modules are offered that deepen mathematical and pedagogical competence.

The teaching degree for vocational schools combines a professional discipline with a school subject and educational sciences.
