BioVaria honours start-up project from Uni Bonn

The start-up project “Bone2Gene” received an award in the category “early-stage innovation” at the life-science technologies event BioVaria, that took place in April in Munich. Dr. Behnam Javanmardi pitched their business idea and technology which focuses on using artificial intelligence (AI) to make genetic bone conditions easier to spot. He develops this AI technology together with Prof. Dr. Peter Krawitz – both from the Institute of Genomic Statistics and Bioinformatics at the University Hospital Bonn – and their team. The project is currently funded by a GO-Bio initial grant to get its product ready for market launch.

“I am truly honoured by the jury’s decision and grateful to receive this award. We had fantastic opportunities to connect with investors, potential industry partners, and innovative startups”, emphasized Dr. Behnam Javanmardi. Together with Prof. Dr. Peter Krawitz, who is also a member of the University of Bonn’s Modelling and Life & Health Transdisciplinary Research Areas (TRA), and Prof. Klaus Mohnike from the Central German Competence Network for Rare Diseases at the University Hospital Magdeburg, they train an AI on some of the characteristic patterns that skeletal dysplasia exhibits and thus helping medical professionals with their diagnosis. On their way to founding their business, the researchers are advised by the start-up coaches and transfer team of the Faculty of Medicine and the Transfer Center enaCom of University of Bonn.
