E-Learning and Digital Teaching
The University of Bonn provides a wide range of opportunities to make teaching digital. From the eCampus e-learning platform and computer-assisted written examinations through to tools for collaborative teaching and learning and AI-powered teaching, here you will find services that will let you deliver innovative, interactive teaching and learning formats successfully.
Making teaching digital
The eCampus e-learning platform
eCampus is the central learning platform at the University of Bonn. You can find support, instructions and other services on the eCampus team’s web pages.
Computer-assisted written examinations
Computer-assisted written examinations (eKlausuren) are taken electronically at the end of a course. In a computer pool, students sit their examination on workstation computers equipped with a secure examination environment. You can find more information on the eCampus team’s web pages.
Suggestions for digital teaching
The eCampus team keeps a repository of ideas and suggestions for integrating digital media into your curriculum and inject some variety into the learning process.
Tools for specific digital teaching needs
Collaborating in digital media
Recogito Studio is a collaborative tool for annotating images and text. Lecturers use it to structure reading assignments and support close reading and small-group work online. Students are able to add comments, notes and tags. Recogito Studio facilitates focused reading and offers a personalized learning experience.
Scientific computing and programming
JupyterHub is a web-based environment that enables a range of tasks and programs to be created. It can be used, for example, to perform scientific calculations with the help of algorithms, code programs or share results. You can find further information on the University IT and Data Center (HRZ).
Virtual 3D worlds
Virtual 3D worlds use interactive 3D glasses to create immersive learning spaces equipped with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The ViCo project has made this service available across the University of Bonn.
Artificial intelligence in university teaching
The "UNI-Studium und Lehre" (University Teaching and Learning) section in Confluence has an overview of selected scenarios for incorporating AI into university teaching and a list of some AI tools that might be useful. The angle and focus adopted here is that of university teaching methods using tools, rather than any kind of technical or normative appraisal of artificial intelligence.
It can be accessed in BONNET using your Uni-ID or via VPN.
Digitizing and managing literature
Digitization service
Bonn University and State Library (USL) allows you to request digital reproductions of its holdings for your own use. Researchers at the University of Bonn can also propose individual works for digitization.
Reference Management Software
Information and training from the USL on reference management software (Citavi, Zotero, EndNote and JabRef)
Digital humanities
The Bonn Center for Digital Humanities (BCDH) is a central service unit that provides all researchers working in the humanities at the University of Bonn with advice and support on applying and developing digital methods and tools.
Together with the USL, The University IT and Data Center (Hochschulrechenzentrum, HRZ) and the Digital Science Center, the BCDH offers a broad range of tailored tools and services under the aegis of the Faculty of Arts and the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies. Working closely with the Research Data Service Center, the unit can also advise researchers on matters relating to the permanent backup, provision, presentation and licensing of research data.
