The Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is an internationally operating research university with a broad spectrum of subjects. Over 200 years of history, around 38,000 students, more than 6,000 employees and an excellent reputation both at home and abroad: the University of Bonn is one of the most important universities in Germany and has been recognized as a university of excellence.

To sharpen and further develop its scientific profile, the university has established six transdisciplinary research areas / Transdisciplinary Research Areas (TRAs). As novel innovation-promoting organizational structures, the TRAs focus university research on central scientific, technological and societal issues of the future. They serve as creative and exploratory platforms on which subjects and faculties connect in a topic-oriented manner and coordinate their strategic development.

Within the TRA Individuals, Institutions and Societies, scientists investigate the complex relationships between individuals, institutions and societies and develop new perspectives on micro-phenomena (e.g. personality development, action competencies, individualization) and macro-phenomena (e.g. global society,
globalization). For example, the aim is to identify key factors that influence social cohesion, equality of opportunity, efficiency, resource protection, and the development of individual capabilities in the interplay of all these factors. On the cutting edge and with a global perspective, theInternational Center for Philosophy NRW (IZPH) promotes intercultural and interdisciplinary exchange in the field of philosophy and related disciplines. Its mission is, together with its global partners, to promote the worldwide scientific networking in research and teaching. In addition to guest lectures, specialist conferences and guest professorships, this includes exchange programs for students and doctoral candidates.

The University of Bonn is committed to diversity and equal opportunities. It is certified as a family-friendly university. Its goal is to increase the percentage of women in areas where women are underrepresented, and to particularly promote their careers. It therefore strongly encourages applications from relevantly qualified women. The application of suitable people with proven severe disabilities and persons of equal status are particularly welcome.
