Truth is one of the central prerequisites for trust, understanding, and social cohesion—yet at the same time, it is coming under increasing pressure. The pursuit of scientific knowledge, religious beliefs and practices, media coverage and discussion, as well as political action and communication, all operate within areas of tension that shape our present and help determine our future.

In this context, the academic community faces key challenges: managing crises, the conditions for successful communication, and the question of whether—and how—shared truths are still possible or even important in a pluralistic society. Against this backdrop, the Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) Individuals, Institutions, and Societies is hosting a forum on October 9 and 10, 2026, that will explore the topic of “truth” from various perspectives. The goal is to create a space for informed exchange and engagement for researchers and the general public.

Through a variety of formats, participants will gain a hands-on understanding of how truth is negotiated in different contexts and what tensions emerge in the process. While internationally renowned figures will provide insights into current developments through lectures, the audience will be actively engaged in moderated discussions and interactive workshops. In addition, a central poster session is scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2026, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

This session offers early-career researchers, in particular, an excellent opportunity to present their own research, receive valuable feedback, and network across disciplines and fields.
