The Transdiciplinary Research Area (TRA) Individuals and Societies, in collaboration with the German Reference Centre for Ethics in the Life Sciences (DRZE), the Institute of Art History, Bonn and the Kunstmuseum Bonn invites you to a dynamic exchange between the arts and academia. Together, we will explore questions like, e.g. What might a "Third Nature" be? Does synthetic biology challenge the boundary between nature and artefact? What responsibilities arise when life is not merely modified, but deliberately designed? What role should the arts, philosophy, theology, and the natural sciences play in shaping public debates about emerging biotechnologies? How is the creative practice of art remodeled by synthetic life design?
Data-driven research is rapidly reshaping how knowledge is created, shared, and applied across disciplines. From large-scale collaborative projects to individual research initiatives, the effective management and use of research data has become a key prerequisite for scientific excellence. The workshop “Great Data, Great Science” brings together researchers and practitioners from the University of Bonn to engage with current challenges and emerging practices in research data management and data science. Building on previous initiatives such as TeRAbytes and TRAnsDigital, the event provides a forum for interdisciplinary exchange, networking, and the development of new collaborations.
The Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) Individuals and Societies, in collaboration with the Bonn Platform for Forced Migration Studies and IMPULSE – House for Intellectual Innovation and Creativity, invites you to a dynamic exchange between the arts and academia. How can images and narratives convey impressions of maritime (refugee) migration? What challenges, ambivalences, and limitations arise when making experiences of migration visible? And what new perspectives does the dialogue between art and academia open up? Together, we would like to discuss how experiences of maritime (refugee) migration are (or can be) made visible and what possibilities transdisciplinary collaboration opens up. The focus is on the intersections of cinematic, photographic, and scholarly approaches that highlight different forms of storytelling and research.
The pursuit of scientific knowledge, religious beliefs and practices, media coverage and discussion, as well as political action and communication, all operate within areas of tension that shape our present and help determine our future. In this context, science faces key challenges: dealing with crises, the conditions for successful communication, and the question of whether—and how—shared truths are still possible or even important in a pluralistic society. Against this backdrop, the Transdisciplinary Research Area (TRA) Individuals and Societies (TRA IS for short) is organizing a forum that explores the topic of “truth” from various perspectives. The goal is to create a space for informed exchange and engagement for researchers and the general public.
