on the occasion of the Institute's 50th anniversary

Our institute  turns 50 this year! An ideal occasion to celebrate microbiological research with a scientific symposium themed "Microfluencers: from small organisms to global impact". We gratefully acknowledge the support of TRA Modelling.


What to expect? Our interdisciplinary speakers from biology and physics will shed light on various important aspects of how microbial influencers shape our world. How can we address global problems such as climate change and antibiotic resistance or worldwide challenges such as global health and nutrition? The talks are tailored to an interdisciplinary audience and start at a lay scientific level and end with the latest results for experts.


Who should come? Are you interested in microbial cell biology, host-microbe interactions and molecular mechanisms? Maybe you also wonder how biophysical approaches and new methods can support (micro)biological research questions? We invite everyone - from students to experienced researchers - to join us! Moreover, you are encouraged to actively participate and bring a poster with your own latest research results. We will hold two poster sessions to discuss all work and ideas and to initiate new thoughts and visions. We believe that there are many, "neighboring” researchers here in the ABC region who share common interests and research ideas.


Networking evening At the end of our symposium, we will celebrate Prof. Erwin Galinski, our former director who recently retired, and invite everyone to a festive and lively networking evening with drinks and snacks!

Where: Alfred-Philippson lecture hall, Meckenheimer Allee 166 in 53115 Bonn

Participation: Open to all interested scientists. Participation is free of charge. Registration is mandatory. Poster contributions are highly welcome.

On foot/by bike
The venue is only a short 15 minute walk along Meckenheimer or
Poppelsdorfer Allee away from Bonn Central Station.
From Meckenheimer Allee, enter the courtyard of the building and follow
the signs to the lecture hall. Bikes can be parked in the designated
bicycle stands around the building.

Public Transport
From Bonn Hbf, please take bus lines 601, 602 and 603 to Behringstraße.

By car
The university offers paid parking in direct vicinity to the venue.
Tickets are available from machines adjacent to the parking spots.

Institute for Microbiology and Biotechnology (IfMB)

Research at the Institute for Microbiology and Biotechnology (IfMB) ranges from cellular biophysics over physiology and biochemistry of microorganisms to
the production of prebiotics.

Institute for Pharmaceutical Microbiology (IPM)

At the Institute for Pharmaceutical Microbiology (IPM) the molecular mechanisms of action and resistance of antibiotics are investigated with a special focus on the cell wall biosynthesis machinery.

Institute for Biological Physics (IBP)

The main goal at the Institute for Biological Physics (IBP) is to understand the physical principles of biological systems.



TRA Modelling 

How do complex systems actually work? Interaction of mathematical modelling, classical observational methods, data simulation and creative spirit.
