The digital doctoral application
Below you will find detailed instructions for the digital doctoral application. These instructions are aimed at doctoral candidates who are just starting work on their doctorate. If you are already working on your doctorate, you do not need to submit a new application.
Please note that the current application does not fully reflect the faculty-specific requirements and that you must submit additional documents and information to your faculty's doctoral office. Please get in touch with the contact person in your doctoral office. If you have any questions about the digital doctoral application, please contact phddata@uni-bonn.de.
If you are already enrolled as a student, you can log in to Student Services as usual with your Uni-ID and the corresponding password. You are now logged in as a “student”.
Open the menu
Go to the top left corner of the browser and open the menu. Several subpages will be displayed.
Service
Select the Service area.
Requests
In the service area you will find another subpage that will take you to various applications in the Student Services.
Doctorate
You will then find the application for acceptance for doctoral studies in the Applications section. This is currently the only application that you can submit for doctoral studies.
Create new request
You will now be redirected to the promotion application, which you can select with a mouse click.
Doctoral data
The first step is to enter your promotion details. Please note that the fields marked with an * are mandatory. You can of course fill in all fields. Next to the individual fields, you will find explanations of the respective details in the information fields. If you are not yet sure what to enter in some of the fields, please make a selection that best applies to you. The information can be changed later.
Select the doctoral subject by clicking on the arrow symbol to the right of the field. A new page will open.
Select doctoral subject
Enter the name of your doctoral subject in the selection field (the name of the subject can be found in the doctoral regulations of your faculty). Filter for your doctoral subject and select the subject by clicking on the arrow symbol to the left of the result. The doctoral subject will now be loaded into your application. Please do not just enter the doctoral subject manually in the application, but make sure that you use the selection function.
Structured doctoral program
If you are participating in a structured doctoral program, you can indicate this here. Select the structured doctoral program in which you are doing your doctorate. If possible, please also enter the start date.
Doctorate-related stay abroad
Here you can indicate whether you are planning a doctoral-related stay abroad. If this is not the case or you have no plans in this regard, do not enter anything here.
Supervisor
You now have the option of entering your supervisor in the application. If this is a person at the University of Bonn, you can filter them out by clicking on the arrow symbol to the right of the input field. The procedure is the same as for the doctoral subject. Here too, you can enter all the information you have.
If your supervisor cannot be found or is not employed at the University of Bonn, please contact phddata@uni-bonn.de.
University entrance qualification
If you are already enrolled at the University of Bonn, a selection will already be made for you here. The university entrance qualification is usually the Abitur or a comparable qualification that entitles you to study at a university. In the case of foreign qualifications, the first university degree (e.g. a Bachelor's degree) is usually selected. Check whether the information from the Registrar's Office is correct.
First enrollment
The year of first enrollment is the year in which you were enrolled at a university for the very first time. If you are enrolled, a selection will also be made for you here. Check whether the information from the Registrar's Office is correct.
First registration
The year of first registration is the year in which you may have already started a doctorate at another university or on a different topic at the University of Bonn, but discontinued/finished it. If you are starting a doctorate for the first time, you do not need to enter anything here.
Final examination that qualifies for a doctorate
The final examination entitling you to a doctorate is a degree that entitles you to a doctorate. This is, for example, a Master's degree, a diploma or a state examination. If you are enrolled and have already completed your Master's degree, a preselection will be made for you here and you do not need to enter anything else.
If you are applying as a student of the Faculty of Medicine, enter the data you already know. If you have not yet completed your state examination, your data can be added at a later date.
Employment at the University of Bonn
If you are employed at the University of Bonn, i.e. have an employment contract, please indicate this. This also includes employment within the framework of a structured doctoral program. If possible, please also enter the start date of the contract and - if known - the end date of the contract. If these dates change during your doctoral studies, please notify the doctoral office responsible for you.
Upload necessary documents/evidence
At the end of the application, you have the option of uploading the necessary documents and further evidence (max. 10 files). This includes language certificates, the supervision agreement and the Master's certificate. Please contact the doctoral office responsible for you to find out whether you need to submit additional original documents.
Comment function
You can also add a comment to your application with relevant information, for example if you would like to submit a specific document or have questions about your application. Your comment is visible to the contact persons in the doctoral office and can be taken into account there.
Closing
You can submit your application after you have provided all the information as completely as possible. However, you also have the option of saving the application and resuming processing at a later date. The application can then be found in the same way as under “Applications”.
