University of Bonn right in the thick of it: “Morge es hück” at the Rose Monday parade University of Bonn at the Rose Monday parade

Rose Monday is the biggest day of Carnival – especially in Bonn. Because no reveller (“Jecken”) would want to miss the Rose Monday parade. The University of Bonn was there again, too, parading through downtown Bonn in high spirits, creative costumes and lots of throwing material. One carnival booty was once again particularly sought after!

For Prince Roland I and Bonna Stephanie III, the Rose Monday parade is the highlight of their reign. With over 4,500 participants, this was probably also the largest Rose Monday parade in Bonn ever, despite the rainy weather. Hundreds of thousands of revellers lined the winding parade route through the city center.

“Morje es hück”: University motto with a view to the future

Under the motto “Morje es hück” (Tomorrow is today), the University of Bonn showed that Carnival can be both tradition and future. The University made its presence felt with two floats and a walking group. Not only University members took part, but also guests from near and far. The lively group was led by Rector Michael Hoch and University Council Chairman Georg Schütte.

“Ducks, ducks!” – the most sought-after sweets in town

Anyone who saw the University group coming knew immediately: things were about to get colorful. Robots, data octopuses, and astronauts mingled with the revelers. One highlight was not to be missed this year either: the University's rubber ducks. The University revellers traditionally throw not only candy (“Kamelle”), but also a custom-designed themed duck. In many streets, the costumed revellers no longer shout for (“Kamelle”) as soon as the University group approaches, but “ducks, ducks!” And the joy is immense when one of the coveted University ducks actually lands in their hands.

Once again, the Rose Monday parade became a day when all of Bonn comes together – and the University of Bonn was right in the middle of it. Alaaf!
