Beginning a New Chapter in Your Life Beginning a New Chapter in Your Life

First-Semester-Students’ Welcome to the University of Bonn on October 4, 2022

Many young adults will be opening a new chapter in their lives over the next few weeks as they embark on their studies at the University of Bonn at the start of the winter semester. The University is keen to mark the occasion by inviting all first-semester-students to a welcome event. There will be plenty of information available and activities to join in with, allowing the students to find out all they need to know about living and studying in Bonn. The event will finish with a party in the University Main Building, giving them their first opportunity to make new friends.

The program gets under way at noon, when the students will be welcomed in the University’s main auditorium. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch, Rector of the University, will be joined by Madita Mues, President of the General Students’ Committee (AStA), and Sean Bonkowski, Head of the AStA’s Department of Faculty Student Councils, to welcome students both in person and via livestream and give them an initial insight into the many varied opportunities that studying at the University of Bonn opens up.

The students will then have the chance to learn more about the various activities and services offered by the University in the Arkadenhof at the Main Building, where central University and student organizations will be on hand with info booths and other activities to get involved in. Students will be able to find out who to contact if they have any specific questions, what they can do when they have some free time or fancy a bit of culture, and what issues are especially important to the University. Besides the Central Study Advisory and Counseling Service, University Sports, the Student Service Organisation (Studierendenwerk Bonn), various departmental student bodies, the student radio station bonn.fm and other key organizations, the University’s various Vice Rectorates will also be on hand to introduce themselves. This will provide first-semester-students with an excellent, first-hand overview of the huge range of topics and contacts available

Meanwhile, guided tours of the University Main Building and games of “human soccer” will give the students the opportunity to meet some of their peers and get to know their new home. The day will be rounded off with a party from 6 pm onward, when the canteen marquee will be turned into a dance floor, the Arkadenhof into a space for mingling and the Blaue Grotte into a lounge. The party will end at 11 pm.
