University of Bonn Pushes Further up the THE World University Rankings University of Bonn Pushes Further up the THE World University Rankings

89th in the world and 4th in Germany

The University of Bonn has retained its strong position in the “Times Higher Education” (THE) World University Rankings 2027, climbing three places on last year to stand 89th in the world. The University has also significantly improved its standing within Germany, jumping two whole spots to fourth. This comes hot on the heels of its very strong showing in the internationally renowned Shanghai Ranking in August, when it was one of only four German universities to make it into the world’s top 100.

The University of Bonn thus remains one of the leading higher-education institutions in Germany and is holding its own in a particularly tight leading pack. The only institutions now ahead of it in the rankings are Munich’s two universities and Heidelberg University. Following on behind the University of Bonn are RWTH Aachen University, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Charité.

What is particularly pleasing is that the University of Bonn has made progress in all the main regions used to make comparisons: worldwide, within Europe and inside the EU. Within the EU, the University occupies an excellent 15th position, again climbing the rankings year on year. The most striking developments include improvements in the “Research Environment” and “Industry” categories, while it also delivered a very strong performance within Germany for “Teaching” and “Research Quality.”

The latest rankings considered 2,297 universities from 118 countries, including 55 institutions in Germany.
