Women in AI & Robotics is a global network dedicated to shrinking the gender gap in the fields of AI and robotics by building a robust network supporting women active in these fields. The University of Bonn Institute for Science and Ethics (IWE) and Women in AI & Robotics have already started working together to form a local chapter for the network in Bonn.
The first joint event in this partnership will be “Women in AI & Robotics Bonn: From Human-Robot Interaction to Sustainable AI,” to be held Thursday, November 9. At the event, Professor Aimee van Wynsberghe, Humboldt Professor at the University of Bonn and Head of the Institute for Science and Ethics (IWE), Professor Maren Bennewitz, Vice Rector for Digitalization and Information Management and Head of the University of Bonn Humanoid Robots Lab, Modestha Mensah, Visiting Fellow at the IWE and Sheila Beladinejad, President of Women in AI & Robotics, will be giving short talks presenting their research, with Dr. Rosalie Waelen of the IWE as moderator.
Emphasizing the commitment of the IWE and Women in AI & Robotics to ethics, sustainability, education, international partnerships, visibility and gender equality, Women in AI & Robotics founder Sheila Beladinejad commented: “I am delighted about our partnership with the IWE and formation of a local Women in AI & Robotics group in Bonn.” Together, she elaborated, the IWE and Women in AI & Robotics can pave the way for a more inclusive and ethical future in the fields of AI and robotics, promoting sustainability through diversity-driven innovation. “I find the vibrant community of talented individuals at the Institute and their passion and dedication to making the world a better place absolutely inspiring.”
Professor Aimee van Wynsberghe added: “I am extremely pleased that we are now forming a chapter of the Women in AI and Robotics network in Bonn. There are so many tremendous women working in the field here in Bonn, doing research on sustainability, AI and human-robot interactions, for example.” It is important, Professor van Wynsberghe continued, for these women to band together, exchange ideas and share their experiences, exploring how they can reach more women with their contagious enthusiasm for robotics and artificial intelligence.
