Entry to the University Main Building will be via the Ehrenhalle from 11:15 am, with the official welcome set to start at noon in the main auditorium and be livestreamed into adjacent lecture halls. Rector Michael Hoch will be joined by Lena Smeets, Vice Chair of the General Students’ Committee (AStA), to welcome the new students. The pair will also take to the stage to discuss various topics relating to the University and student life with a packed roster of guests.
From 1 to 3 pm, the info market in the Arkadenhof will offer a chance to discover various University and student organizations and meet fellow students and researchers face to face. There will also be guided tours of the University’s historic Main Building as well as hands-on activities courtesy of the departmental student bodies. The day will culminate in the first-semester students’ party in the main auditorium and the Arkadenhof in the evening, where the new students will be able to celebrate the start of their journey together.
There will be simultaneous interpreting of the welcome program in the main auditorium into both English and sign language, while anyone unable to be there in person can watch a livestream of the event taking place in the main auditorium. The event is free of charge and no registration is required. Students are asked to bring their student ID or another document proving that they are studying at the University of Bonn.
