Meet the Bonn University Ambassadors
The public part of the program gets under way on Tuesday, October 21, with the “Ask an Ambassador” event from 10:15 am to 12:15 pm, where 10 Bonn University Ambassadors will be introducing their home countries and institutions in the Senate Hall of the University Main Building. Each ambassador will have their own booth, where they will share details of mobility and cooperation opportunities and answer questions about academic exchanges and research projects at the partner institutions, accompanied by sweet treats from their home country.

Grand opening of Leah’s World Café
Afterward, at 1 pm, Leah’s World Café will open at Rabinstraße 8. The café is designed as a meeting place for intercultural dialogue where University projects with an international element can also be showcased. It is named after Leah Goldberg, an alumna of the University of Bonn, who obtained her doctorate from the Faculty of Arts in 1933 before fleeing the country when the Nazis seized power.

Presentation of the state awards and the DAAD Prize
The International Days will culminate in a ceremony in the Grand Hall starting at 4 pm on October 21, when a number of prestigious prizes will be awarded: exceptional students and early-career researchers will be presented with the German Academic Exchange Service’s DAAD Prize as well as the state awards, which are conferred by the governments of France, Spain and the UK. The ceremony will be enriched by a keynote lecture given by the Bonn University Ambassador Professor Pratyush Shankar from India’s Navrachana University and entitled “The Promise of the City: Imagining the Future of Urban Communities in India.” This will be followed by music from the band Marion & Sobo, before the day is rounded off with a reception in the Senate Hall in the company of representatives of the sponsor governments, the DAAD and numerous partners from all over the world.

“For what is now the fifth time, the 2025 International Days provide a unique platform for building bridges between Bonn and the rest of the world,” says Professor Birgit Ulrike Münch, Vice Rector for International Affairs. “Some outstanding early-career researchers will be honored for their excellent achievements, while engaging in direct dialogue with our Bonn University Ambassadors will open up new avenues for stays abroad, partnerships and international research for our students and researchers. We as a university absolutely have to create these kinds of spaces for conversation, because new solutions to existing problems only come about through interdisciplinary and international dialogue.”
