The following speakers will take part in the discussion:
- Prof. Dr. Christoph Antweiler, University of Bonn, Professorship for Southeast Asian Studies
- Jun.-Prof. Dr. Julia Mink, University of Bonn, Argelander Professorship for Environmental Economics, Sustainability, and Inequality
- Prof. Dr. Ralf Pude, University of Bonn, Professorship for Renewable Resources and Scientific Director of the Klein-Altendorf Sustainability Campus
The discussion will be moderated by journalist Eva Wolfangel.
The discussion will open up new perspectives on the energy transition: Energy will not only be understood as a technical challenge, but also as a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon. What responsibility do we bear for our energy future? What role do cultural narratives and social justice play in the energy transition? And what might a fair and sustainable energy supply look like—both locally and globally?
Come by and rethink energy with us – as a resource that we as a society can shape together and as the key to a livable future!
The event is jointly organized by the Transdisciplinary Research Areas (TRAs), the Argelander-Institute for Astronomy, and the Transfer Center enaCom at the University of Bonn. Further information can be found here on the event page.
Hands-on activity of the University of Bonn: “Zeig Watt in dir steckt” (“Show what you've got”)
Before the discussion, the University of Bonn is offering an exciting hands-on activity on deck of the MS Wissenschaft: From 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on July 8, visitors can generate their own energy for the future as part of the “Zeig Watt in dir steckt” (“Show what you've got”) activity. The activity is being organized by a winning student team of the “Hochschulwettbewerb 2025” university competition. The team is building a modular escape room as part of its “2051: Energie im Weltraum” (“2051: Energy in Space”) project for Science Year 2025. On the deck of the MS Wissenschaft, the student team from the University of Bonn, led by the Argelander-Institute for Astronomy, will present initial ideas for this escape room with an interstellar future scenario. This will use easy-to-understand experiments to illustrate the importance of renewable forms of energy.
MS Wissenschaft in Bonn: Experience research firsthand
Both events are part of the supporting program for the MS Wissenschaft exhibition ship, which will be anchored in Bonn from July 8 to 10. On board, visitors can discover current research on the energy supply of the future at around 30 exhibits and get actively involved themselves. MS Wissenschaft is touring Germany on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The exhibition was realized by Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) with the support of the scientific organizations behind WiD.
