Gaining Qualifications While You Study – Workshops, Training, Coaching

Tackling a degree program requires many different skills that students will need to acquire alongside their subject-specific knowledge during their time at university. The workshops and training sessions that form part of the International Office’s “Study for Life” program provide valuable support in this regard.

Study for Life

Alongside your subject-specific degree program, the workshops in the “Getting Started,” “Professional Skills,” “Career Planning” and “International Community” modules teach you skills that will make your academic study easier and will be especially valuable for your career.

The courses are aimed at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students. Please see the descriptions of the workshops for details of the specific target group.

Getting Started

Many first-year international students face challenges when beginning their studies. The “Getting Started” module offers workshops that give students guidance with organizing their studies and teach them language and other skills that will be useful in their academic and scientific work. The “Lead-In Studies” project is designed specifically to support new bachelor’s students and puts on events that help them learn a structured approach to planning and carrying out their studies.

Workshops in the Getting Started module

  • Target group: International bachelor’s students and state examination students in the 1st to 3rd semesters of their programs (if there are free places, higher semesters can also participate)
  • Course language: German
  • Course format: Online Workshop
  • Content: The ability to organize one's studies independently is elementary for developing relevant competencies for the business world and is therefore one of the most important key competencies that can be acquired during one's studies. At the beginning of the studies, an overwhelming amount of new information and impressions break in on first-year students. Especially considering the fact that newcomers have to orientate themselves in a new cultural environment and at the same time have to cope with the pressure of academic requirements, the organization of studies can become a special challenge in everyday study life. The online workshop is therefore primarily aimed at international students in their first bachelor's semester who want to improve their study organization and work structure. Participants learn to record upcoming tasks and study goals and to organize them in a flexible scheme. With realistic daily and monthly plans, motivation techniques and better study habits, the realization of one's own study goals becomes easier. Further topics of the workshop are analog and digital tools to support selforganization and techniques against distraction in everyday learning.
