DFG Research Training Group "Development and epileptogenesis of dysplasias in the interplay of distinct CNS cell types" (RTG 3151)
Learn how brain malformations emerge and cause seizures in the interplay with their microenvironment, develop and test new and disruptive therapy concepts, and join the new generation of outstanding neuroscientists who bridge cutting-edge basic research with pressing clinical needs! The Research Training Group (RTG) 3151 “Development and epileptogenesis of dysplasias in the interplay of distinct CNS cell types” is a DFG-funded PhD and MD program in Bonn, Germany, that offers a competitive world-class PhD and MD training and research program, linking the fields of developmental neurobiology and epileptology.

Short Description
The RTG 3151 is based on a collaborative effort between the Medical Faculty and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Bonn and the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). The research of our RTG focuses on exploring how cortical dysplasias emerge and cause epilepsy in the mutual interaction with cells and structures of the perilesional microenvironment.
- Apply the most innovative neuroscience methods to understand key pathogenetic aspects of cortical maldevelopment and seizure development.
- Clinical rotation provides unique background knowledge.
- Multiple training opportunities including soft skill and cutting edge methods work-shops, etc..
- Peer learning in small groups, writing circles…
- Planned international lab stay.
- Mentoring by a Thesis Advisory Committee.
- Administrative support, local and international.
- 4-years PhD funding available.
