Specifically, the University has secured new scholarship projects with three partners: California Polytechnic State University (CalPoly) in California (U.S.) and Ilia State University (ISU) and Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) in Georgia. Its ongoing ventures with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) and Tel Aviv University (TAU) in Israel have also been extended successfully. The projects are being funded as part of the Erasmus+ Worldwide Exchange Programme. The new mobility partnerships involve various departments: Physics (CalPoly), Biology (ISU), Human Medicine/Global Health (TSMU) and Economics (HUJI, TAU).
Erasmus+ scholarships are awarded via the University of Bonn directly. Recipients get their tuition fees paid plus a grant, the size of which varies depending on their destination country. Students are given funding for one semester. Teachers and staff from central administration are awarded a lump-sum contribution to their travel and mobility expenses and can spend five days at the partner institution in their destination country. Students will be able to benefit from the new partnerships from the upcoming summer semester 2023 onward, while teachers and staff will be able to start their short stays sooner in some cases.
The mobility program of the European Union, Erasmus+ was established in 1987 in order to foster cooperation between universities within the EU and in other European countries (EU candidate countries, Switzerland, Norway, Turkey) and promote mobility among students and lecturers. The Erasmus+ Worldwide Exchange Programme, which has formed part of Erasmus+ since 2015, supports individual mobility in selected partner universities outside Europe.
Proposals for future cooperation projects are submitted by the relevant faculties or departments with help from the International Office. The forthcoming call for proposals for “Erasmus+ with Partner Countries” will be published in the fall, with the deadline for submission coming in late January or early February.
