Troubled Waters: Protecting the Baltic Sea

Troubled Waters: the key role of multilateral cooperation in protecting one of Europe’s most endangered seas
The Baltic Sea is a unique, fragile and highly endangered regional sea. Established in 1974, the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) is the intergovernmental organization dedicated to protecting the Sea’s environment. In his presentation, Rüdiger Strempel, the Executive Secretary (CEO) of HELCOM, will reflect on over 50 years of multilateral regional cooperation for the benefit of the Baltic Sea and on the role of his organization against a background of long-standing and emerging challenges, including the current geopolitical crisis. The presentation (in English) will be followed by a Q&A session.
