Particularly good rating in the area of teaching

In the current university ranking of the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE), the University of Bonn has once again improved its position in a global comparison and is ranked 112th among the more than 1,600 educational institutions evaluated worldwide. In Germany, Bonn is in 10th place. For the World University Ranking, various indicators were surveyed in the areas of research, teaching, knowledge transfer and internationality.

The University of Bonn did best in the area of teaching - here it reached 117th place in the overall comparison. The indicators included the number of doctorates, the reputation of academic teaching and the staff-to-student ratio. The University of Excellence also recorded slight improvements in the category of knowledge transfer and in the scientific influence of its researchers on the respective subject areas.

Rector Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch is pleased with his university's good performance once again: "I am very pleased that we have been able to further improve our position in the face of tough international competition. A decisive factor in this is that we have been able to attract new excellent minds from all over the world and at all career levels. Our goal is and remains to offer our researchers, faculty and students the best possible environment for creative scientific work."

In the recently published Academic Ranking of World Universities (the so-called "Shanghai Ranking"), the University had also improved to 84th place worldwide (nationwide: 4th place) (https://www.uni-bonn.de/neues/197-2021). Since 2019, the University of Bonn has been one of eleven German Universities and Associations of Excellence and the only University of Excellence with six funded Clusters of Excellence.
