Maximilian Billmann
In a joint research project with Kattrin Leppekt, junior professor Maximilian Billmann transcended the boundaries of his discipline. Thinking together in a transdisciplinary way led to research success, the TRA Research Award: “We are Uni Bonn,” says the researcher about his science team of the future.
Definitely collaborative
The joint research aims to help understand very specific and at the same time very large data sets derived from analyses of biological processes in order to identify cellular mechanisms. Maximilian Billmann works primarily with data and AI. He likes the collaboration, how basic research and clinical research are interdependent and complement each other. He finds the intrinsic curiosity of his team enriching.

TRA Research Award
The TRA Research Prize is endowed with funding of up to €50,000. Transdisciplinary research teams from all TRA departments at the University of Bonn are eligible to apply. The decision is made by a steering committee of the transdisciplinary research area “Life and Health” based on criteria such as innovation potential, transdisciplinarity, and scientific quality. The transdisciplinary research areas at the University of Bonn open up spaces for exploration in which central scientific, technological, and societal challenges are tackled across disciplinary and faculty boundaries, including with external partners, even outside the scientific community. This generates insights that no one could have achieved alone.
