As part of the delegation trip to the French capital, the International Center for Philosophy of North Rhine-Westphalia (IZPH), based at the University of Bonn, was able to establish a new strategic partnership. Initiated by IZPH Director Prof. Dr. med. Markus Gabriel, the Research Center on New Realisms was founded and will be funded by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) with the participation of the Université Paris I - Panthéon Sorbonne and the University of Bonn.

The central topic of the research center is the current return of metaphysical philosophies both in Germany and in France: the development in both countries is to be considered comparatively, and on this basis a common, European metaphysical thinking is to be developed. The basis of this project is the exchange of scientists between the IZPH and the Institute of the Sciences Juridique et Philosophique de la Sorbonne under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Jocelyn Benoist.

"The Research Center on New Realism is a milestone for the further development and international profiling of the Center for Philosophy and the study of Humanities in Bonn as a whole," said Prof. Hoch during the contract signing ceremony.

Visiting Professorship from Collège de France

Of equal importance for the University of Bonn is the continuation of the Ernst-Robert-Curtius Visiting Professorship from the Collège de France in Bonn, that was agreed for a further four years during the visit in Paris. Founded in 1530, the Collège de France cooperates with only 15 Universities on guest chairs. In Germany, the University of Bonn is the only partner in this field. The agreement with the Collège provides not only an exchange of lecturers, but also of postdoctoral and postgraduate students. The exchange is possible for all disciplines at the Collège and Bonn University.

The scientific and administrative coordination of the exchange has been delegated by the Rectorate to Prof. Nicolas Wernert (Dean of the Medical Faculty) and the Romance scholar Dr. Willi Jung. Thanks to this program, which has existed since 2008, excellent researchers have been brought to Bonn such as the Nobel Laureate for Physics Prof. Serge Haroche. For 2018, an interdisciplinary lecture series and a colloquium on the topic of "high culture and violence" has already been agreed. "The continuation of the Ernst-Robert-Curtius Visiting Professorship is extremely important for our University: it is an integral part of our productive cooperation with French science and scientists" explains Rector Hoch.
