We are seeking a scholar who represents the field of Media Studies broadly in both research and teaching. The successful candidate will have a strong profile in debates on media theory and in the methodologies of media research.
The professorship focuses on digital media culture in both research and teaching. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a research profile in the history, theory, and analysis of digital media as well as in the methodologies of their study. One of two defined focal areas must be in the field of the media culture and aesthetics of computer games and their media environments (including serious gaming, simulation, and gamification).
Applicants must demonstrate pedagogical aptitude in competently addressing questions concerning the historical development of digital media, their aesthetic forms, and their political implications within the framework of societal change.
Teaching experience, commitment to teaching (also in English), willingness to further develop the Institute’s study programs, and participation in academic self-governance are expected. Experience with methods of computer-based media research and the development of corresponding teaching formats is desirable. A proven record in acquiring third-party funding is required. Participation in teaching and research initiatives of the Faculty of Arts as well as in the University of Bonn’s collaborative research networks is also desired.
A doctorate in a relevant field and either a habilitation or equivalent academic achievements are required.
The appointment requirements are governed by § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW).
