Reconnecting pathways

Dear Readers,

Deserted corridors and desolate lecture halls: where we would usually find fellow students, teachers or colleagues, there is only a yawning emptiness. This is echoed
by the four staircases on the cover. Almost everything has gone online.

At the same time, many people have the feeling that there is no way forward. And yet the past year has also brought a wealth of experiences with it: teaching and studying turned digital, virtually overnight. How are we getting on with that? What solutions have we found to connect people and content in new ways and make them available in different forms? We have put a few examples together in this issue.

For many, the time they have spent with digital tools is serving as motivation, as a wake-up call: right across the University, people and their ideas are beginning to forge new links and discover digital ways of doing things.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael Hoch, is embarking on his second term
of office together with his new team of vice rectors. He has some great expectations as he looks forward into the future (more on page 4).

forsch is also on the cusp of a digital transformation: its design and distribution are being brought into the modern age. Besides the familiar PDF and flipbook, a digital version will also be available soon. Those who prefer to receive their forsch as a hard copy, however, can continue to subscribe free of charge.
